About

The control of deforestation and the long-term permanence of mature and/or regenerating forests depend on the strict enforcement of the Atlantic Rainforest Law, which sets parameters for the protection regime for the Atlantic Rainforest biome.

The Eye on the Green Program (Projeto Olho no Verde) promotes the systematic monitoring of forest remnants using high-resolution satellite images, automatically detecting deforestation alerts in the state and sending this information to Inea‘s inspection teams in a strategic and intelligent manner.

Since the beginning of the project, in 2016, more than 1,500 deforestation alerts have been answered. The project has driven 1,200 enforcement actions, 76% of which had illegal deforestation confirmed. The information generated by the operation is an important source for decision making, understanding the deforestation profile and dynamics of the landscape in the state.

Over time, the project also became a promoter of partnerships, having sought institutional partnerships with municipalities, the State Prosecutor's Office, ICMBio, SOS Mata Atlântica, and Mapbiomas, and others.
